I like to fish and camp during the summer months and I plan on doing a lot of both this year. I want to know where I can go to buy a good pair of hiking boots. I’m looking for ones that will not wear out after a few months, be comfortable, and will not be too expensive.
Well, it’ll probably be hard to find a really good quality boot that is inexpensive. A boot that meets your needs will probably cost anywhere from $120 to $180 depending on brand and type. If you like fishing, I would definetely recomend a boot that is water proof. Many boots nowadays come with either a Gore-Tex or like material waterproofing. For a good selection and sales specialists that are experts in the matter, I would go to your local REI. The staff should be able to help you select a boot and fit it properly to help you get the desired outcome.

What price range is good for you? I bought a pair of Vasque boots and put them to the test yesterday on a six-mile hike. Six miles should be enough to indicate whether a boot will be comfortable or not, and these boots got a two thumbs up. I purchased them for $150. If I can give you one huge piece of advice, put as much as you can into a good pair of hiking boots. You WILL regret it if you don’t. Look for a boot that feels good right from the get go. And also look for a Goretex upper as this allows for waterproofing and moisture wicking. And one other thing…socks are very important, too. I bought a pair of Ultimax for $10 and they kept my feet so comfortable, that I was able to really enjoy the hike without the worries of blisters, et. al. Put together a good pair of boots and some good socks, and you’ll be a very happy camper (pun intended).

I’ve got a nice pair of Teva hiking boots I bought cheap at SportsmansGuide.com – They’ve lasted 4+ years. Some stuff is of poor quality, but the name brand gear is usually pretty cheap. Lots of surplus gear, too. SierraTradingPost.com has some OK deals also.

I’ve bought a lot of great gear through REI Outlet on the REI website. (You don’t have to be an REI member.) You can save up to 50%, and sometimes more. Everything is guaranteed 100% so you can return it if you don’t like it for any reason. I’ve gotten good boots this way too.

Don’t be afraid to spend money on a GOOD pair of hiking boots! Your feet are more valuable than only say$30 to $50. You need a pair that gives you plenty of support and protection. Try a pair of patrol boots or day boots from a army surplus store if you wont spent that much. My boots cost over $250.00 But I have had them for 4 years. They show almost no wear, are light weight and keep me going happily down or up the trail. They are z coil hiking boots found at http://www.zcoil.com. before those boots I spent over $300 every 18 months on a good pair of logger boots. I’ve found day boots are adequit for a cheap pair. but it’s worth it to spend money on quality foot protection, especially in the wilderness.
