I am hiking the vermont section of the appalachian trail in 2 weeks (august). what is the best pair of hiking boots – minimal break in, good support- gore-tex waterproof, and of course, affordable ($100ish range).
Thanks!
First of all you don’t go on a long backpacking trip without doing extensive breaking in of your boots. You’re chancing major blisters!!! I have yet to see a manufacturer market their boots as "requiring minimal breaking in".
Second, Don’t expect to find many Gore-tex boots for $100-ish. I found a decent pair of Asolo Fugitive GTX but they cost $170 at REI, about $140 on sale. Add in a pair of Superfeet Green insoles for $35.00… And you have a decent setup, but nowhere near $100-ish and nothing I’d take on the VT Appalachian Trail without come serious 1-2 day trips first.
