Do not go cheap on your boots, you`ll have a miserable time with bad boots. I know you meant to say inexpensive rather than cheap but you get what you pay for. You want something with a good sole, that is waterproof, and comfortable. Make sure you wear your boots for a couple of weeks before your trip in order to break them in properly. Wear them around town to school/work, this way they are fitted properly. When shopping for them try the boots on with the socks you will be wearing while hiking. I recommend Merino Wool socks since they can keep your feet warm even when they are soaking wet and they wick away moisture from your skin keeping your feet dry and warmer. They also dont smell so you can get away with wearing them for a couple of days with out washing them. But do yourself a favor and dont skimp on the boots

Fair selection on the site below for around £30.
Could also try your local "Army & Navy" type shop – they usually have a range of boots at reasonable prices.
If you are talking about doing any serious walking bite the bullet and buy a better pair – modicum of care and attention they should last you years.
