In this series I cover key features of backpacking boot construction to help you in your purchase decision. I may have left some things out but I cover the important parts. I don’t review specific boots and probably won’t ever: models change frequently and it’s just logistically impossible for me now. Using the info I provide here just give a good basis for getting the right heavy duty hiking boot.

** Please do not PM me with questions about specific boot models and what would be good for you. I apologize but I just don’t have the time to research it for you.

    Impressive. Great job with
    your classes. amazing.
    Really, don’t ever be discouraged
in any way with the work that
you are doing here… I’m sure
that there are many who are
thankful, but are too critical to
mention it to you. Albeit, your
    insights and shared knowledge
    thru experience may save lives.
Perhaps, it is already the case,
    because even the small stuff
    adds up and overwhelms in
    a trying situation. Thanks again.

    I HATE buying boots …
I HATE buying boots or shoes in general. I wear a size 14-15 and no-one carries that size. I Tried buying a pair of boots online from a major distributer and they sent me a baseball shirt by accident. Don’t ask me how. I no longer buy shoes online. Any ideas on where to buy large boots/shoes?

you can cut canvas or leather to cover your laces and take the beating for them. Use light wire to stitch it into your boot lace-holes with your laces.

you can also replace laces with para cord. then if you tear anything it will be your boot, not your lace.

    Fit = everything.

I spend a ton of time in the woods and i’d much rather go barefoot than have boots that don’t fit. splinters and cuts heal faster and are less debilitating than bone compression wounds.

Paracord makes the best boot laces you can get. Just cut to length and make sure you melt the ends so it does not fray
